The final product will be a virtual simulation environment aimed at training healthcare professionals (e.g. doctors, nurses, nutritionists, physiotherapists, etc.) in clinical communication skills.
The tool consists of online simulation software with fictional characters and situations that simulate real-life clinical environments, in which users must successfully tackle the various challenges posed. Depending on their performance in effectively resolving the situations presented, they will obtain rewards enabling them to unblock resources, accesses and more complex situations, facilitating training in communication skills with situations at a higher level.
The design is based on open responses to each challenge and leverages intelligent programming to provide instant feedback on the suitability of the responses given.
HEALTHCOMM SIMULATOR is a completely innovative development in Europe, and it is worth highlighting several important aspects. To execute this project, speech to text software will be developed to enable the use of artificial intelligence based on machine learning to obtain reliable, high quality audio to text conversion. A semantic cataloguing system will also be developed so that following audio to text conversion, the user’s response can be compared against the response database and a score assigned based on an expert classification algorithm. The user will then be shown the score and, if appropriate, given options to improve the response.
HEALTHCOMM SIMULATOR facilitates user autonomy during training, because it dispenses with the need to have a teacher present to facilitate and validate learning and skills acquisition. At the same time, it replicates an environment that generates an approximation of the users’ natural response in a real-life situation.
